June 2016

Dear Parents,

As a staff we have decided to start giving the children maths homework on a weekly basis. The reason for doing this is two-fold.

1) We currently give English homework in the form of spellings and reading targets and we want to raise the profile of maths to equal that of English.
2) We want to bridge the gap between home and school in maths and give parents the opportunity to share in their children's mathematical development.

Obviously, from the children's perspective, the more practice they have of core maths skills, the better.

The homework will be given on Tuesday nights*. Homework should be returned to school on Wednesday morning.  We do ask that ALL children complete the weekly homework as it will be an important part of the children's overall confidence, understanding and development in maths.

DON'T PANIC!

The homework will only be a few questions (up to five) based on what the children have been studying that week.

We will be inviting parents into school to attend 'PACT,' (Parents And Children Together) sessions this term and these will be focussed on maths to give support/suggestions to parents about how to help their children with maths at home.

Many thanks, in advance, for your co-operation.

Regards,

Mr. Rees
